Yajaira Rubio Machado
My Name is Yajaira. I am the founder of the Ballet Folklorico Moon Azteca, an afterschool program that focuses on teaching Mexican folklore, art, dance, music, culture, and traditions founded in 2015. My roots are originally in Mocorito, Sinaloa Mexico, where my grandfather was a well-known composer of Banda music.
Music has always been in my heritage. Since the age of 4 years old, I have been dancing the traditional forms of Mexican Ballet. I have a passion to share the unique cultural music and traditional dances of Mexico.
All our dancers perform in specific regional dresses + suits reflecting each specific dance representing 4 different states Sinaloa, Chiapas, Nuevo Leon, and Jalisco. We are currently 13 strong dancers. NOW, with the lifting of personal restrictions, we will build our troupe back to our former numbers. Ballet Folklorico Moon Azteca’s performers range in age from the youngest 3 years of age up to 14 years of age.
We are a Dance Troupe devoted to performing in all communities. By example,The Mad Hatter Parade, Día de los Muertos festival, 5 de Mayo Festival, Vallejo Art Walk, the 4th of July parade where we won first place for the best dance troupe. We are working very hard with different organizations to continue to share our diverse + rich culture with our community.
